Handcrafted books and jewelry
About me
A flighty creative
I have always been interested in creating things with my hands. I earned a Bachelor's degree in architectural design, and while working towards it, I realized that designing in physical format would not last and everything was going digital. My strength does NOT lie with digital anything! That and most contemporary design did not contain the complex beauty, the weird and eccentric designs of the past. Clean and pristine is where things seem to be heading, and I do not fall under that category. Kitschy, unusual, and playful is where my work lives.
I found a niche love of bookbinding when I lucked upon a book repair job at my university's library. While trying to find ways to bind books without all of the required fancy and expensive equipment, I continued to explore other methods of art and design. Three dimensional works of art are what bring me the greatest joy. I have enjoyed sculpting with clay from the first time I tried it. Bookbinding continues to be a favorite, and now metalsmithing has found its way into my wheelhouse.
I create everything in my free time outside of my full time work; and that free time is split among practicing aerial arts and spending time with friends and loved ones. I am pretty certain that if I tried to do art and design full time, it might soon cease to bring me satisfaction, so it remains a pastime. I sell my work only so I can fund more tools, supplies, and classes to create even more.
Now that I have the basic understanding of several different disciplines, I hope to bring them together more often, utilizing metalsmithing in bookbinding and vice versa. I always have new ideas floating around in my head, and I hope they can manifest the way they exist in my mind.
